I saw the idea on the Make magazine blog but I think they got it from one of the museum or science museum websites. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Using pipe cleaners, or the fancy colorful ones from the craft store, and a super saturated solution of Borax and water we made some nice homemade crystal ornaments. The kids came up with many good ideas for the shapes. We also have penguins and candy canes and more... &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;It takes the whole day, or wait overnight, to let the crystals grow on the ornaments. Grandma said she wanted some homemade Christmas gifts. Well, here you go!!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The mixture is three tablespoons of Borax for every cup of water used. The water must be really hot to make the supersaturated solution. I boiled water in a kettle, then poured it into a canning jar, and immediately added the Borax.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am wondering if I could make these ornaments with some EL wire, that is electroluninescent wire, and have these ornaments light up!
